Introducing Low Cost Counselling with Kim
We are thrilled to introduce our new counselling intern Kim Byrne. Kim will be offering reduced cost counselling virtually throughout BC.
A few words from Kim:
Hi, I'm Kim she/her

My approach is to create a warm and welcoming space where you can show up as you
are. I believe counselling is about creating space to slow down, make sense of what
you're carrying, and feel genuinely heard.
I am a counsellor-in-training completing my Master of Education in School & Community
Counselling at City University of Seattle’s Vancouver Campus. I bring more than 15
years of experience supporting children, youth, and families as an educator, most
recently as a Learning Services Teacher in New Westminster. My own journey through
motherhood and loss, along with my work with the Butterfly Support Network
supporting individuals and families navigating pregnancy loss and infertility, has shaped
my interest in maternal and perinatal mental health, grief and loss, and the transition to
parenthood.
My approach is relational, trauma-informed, collaborative, and strengths-based. My
developing practice is informed by mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches,
somatic awareness, and group counselling. I have a particular interest in developing my
practice in narrative therapy and understanding how our identities, relationships,
communities, and the systems around us shape our experiences. I bring a
neurodiversity-affirming perspective informed by my years of working with students and
families with diverse and complex needs.
I am currently completing Canadian Perinatal Mental Health Training, continuing to
develop my knowledge and skills in supporting people through pregnancy, postpartum,
infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and the many transitions that come with becoming
a parent.
A little more about me
I’m a mom of three—one living and two who I hold dear in my heart. My path to
motherhood was not linear, and it took years to navigate the heartbreak of loss before
welcoming our living son into our lives.
These days, much of my life revolves around family, the beautiful chaos of raising a little
one, getting outdoors, and sharing a good, heartfelt conversation with people I care about. I value humour, honesty, connection, and making space for the messy parts of
being human.
I’m also committed to being a lifelong learner and to ongoing learning, accountability,
and action, including challenging colonial practices, supporting Indigenous self-
determination, and honouring our connection and responsibility to care for the land.
With gratitude, I acknowledge that I live, work, and learn on the traditional and unceded
territories of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh
(Squamish), Stóō, and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
I don’t believe we need to have everything figured out before we ask for support, and
I’m grateful for the opportunity to sit alongside people as they find their way.
I look forward to connecting with you soon.
